Camper Life

My name is Erika, and I live on an island in the Canary Islands, Lanzarote.

Legends and stories hover around it, making it a unique place that reveals itself only to those who have the eyes to truly see it.

The most famous is the legend of the Devil of Timanfaya, which combines the power of volcanic rock, love, and the Aloe Vera plant, creating such an evocative myth that it is still passed down today.

It is a volcanic island closely connected to the energy of fire, and the island itself is the symbol that best represents me because I have always believed that each of us is an island. A perfect, complete island that holds within itself everything it may need.

Land kissed by the waters and caressed by the wind, the complete sum of every element, expressed in characteristics that make it unique and unrepeatable.

My life is a little different from the conventional one, but it suits me perfectly.

I share my days with my partner, and some time ago, we decided to start living together.

As often happens, my plans underwent major changes compared to the initial idea: we wanted to find a house for ourselves, but it seems that today's society does not make things easy for young people trying to build their own future.

This is even more challenging for those who choose to build their life far from their homeland, having to create a new reality from scratch.

It was the same for us, but despite all the objective obstacles, our desire to start a life together kept us going while we decided to buy a camper and make it our home.

It is a lifestyle that intrigues many people who are unfamiliar with it and always raises a lot of questions.

Not everyone chooses to live this way. It is certainly a lifestyle that seems very appealing in a vacation setting but is often perceived as difficult to sustain on a daily basis.

In reality, it is a very simple and minimalist way of life, which we could even describe as more normal than one might think, although it forces us to recalibrate our perspectives, making us choose what is truly important and eliminating the superfluous. It also teaches us to be constantly mindful of the world that hosts us, helping us understand how essential it is to avoid waste and how little we truly need to live.

However, it also offers some pleasures I had never experienced before. I can wake up every day in a different place, sometimes right by the sea, with the sound of the waves guiding me out of my dreams, and every evening, I can gaze at the starry sky from a different angle.

If needed, I can even sleep close to the place where I need to be in the morning, eliminating the problem of traffic and delays while reaching a new level of comfort.

Of course, sharing a small space can be challenging, especially for those who were born and raised in traditional homes with more spacious interiors. But even this dynamic becomes an opportunity to get to know each other better and build a solid and well-structured relationship.

It should be clear that our choice was not one of those impulsive decisions to “drop everything and move into a camper.” Instead, we made a necessity into a virtue to achieve our goal of living together, since, being on an island, the housing options were extremely limited, and we couldn’t find one that suited us.

Looking back, it is clear how this house on wheels, with the power to move across the world, represents us perfectly. Without tools anchoring it to the ground, it is the perfect reflection of us—still wandering in search of our place in the world. And that doesn’t bother us at all; in fact, we love it!

After all, living in total freedom aboard a camper has always been a lifelong dream. So I can say that the island itself has fulfilled my wish, respecting my essence and bringing me back into deep connection with my truest desires.

Like the island, we still don’t have absolute clarity about the path we will take in life, about what our definitive profession will be, or whether we truly want a permanent home at this exact moment in our existence.

Travel and constant discovery are the essence of our lives.

And it is precisely within this journey of exploration that I place my ideas and creativity, bringing new projects to the world.
